Factors Affecting Service Satisfaction of the Psychiatric Patients in Social Rehabilitation Facilities and Day Hospitals

Abstract

|
This study was conducted to examine the factors influencing service satisfaction of psychiatric patients in social rebabilitation facilities and day hospitals in Busan.
Methods : The subjects of this study were total 403 psychiatric patients (185 psychiatric patients in 10 social rehabilitations and 218 psychiatric patients in 10 day hospitals). Socio-demographic characteristics (age, sex, education, family income), Clinical variables (duration of illness, numbers of hospitalization), Satisfactions (Client Satisfaction Questionnaire Scale-30) Empowerment and Mastery (Member Consumer Survey), Social Support (Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support), Stigma and Discrimination (Mental health consumers¡¯ experience of stigma) were gathered from subjects.
Results : According to regression analysing using backward elimination on factors that related to service satisfaction, the following four variables were found : Age, Empowerment, Perceived social support, Perceived discrimination. The four variables explain 57% of satisfaction. There were no significant difference in Client satisfaction questionnaire scale score between social rebabilitation facilities and day hospitals. Only sub-dimension of services (Physical surroundings, Support staff, Kind or type of service) show higher client satisfaction questionnaire scale score in social rehabilitation facilities than that of day hospitals.
Conclusions : The four variables, such as Age, Empowerment, Perceived social support, Perceived discrimination were significantly associated with service satisfaction. But the amount of explain is 57%. Further follow-up studies are warranted to examine the factors affecting the service satisfactions.
